Identify Verification is Essential in Small Business E-Commerce

Amazon, eBay and other e-commerce giants continue to make online shopping a go-to source for the majority of retail needs. Online shopping can be cost-effective and convenient. However, there are risks that fraudsters can obtain the information entered on the Internet in a harmful and malicious way.

According to the US Census Bureau, “Total retail sales for the second quarter of 2015 were estimated at $1,171.5 billion, an increase of 1.6 percent (±0.2%) from the first quarter of 2015.” Therefore, it is now more important than ever to implement identity verification tools to safeguard businesses and their customer data. As e-commerce has gone mainstream it has been easier for all types of businesses to sell online affordably. For some businesses it removes the barriers of overhead costs and increases profit margins.

EVS offers a product suite that covers everything from domestic to international Identity Verification, for small businesses to large corporations. As an example, a small winery decides it wants to expand its customer-base by adding the option to purchase online. Even though it is easy to add a simple e-commerce feature to the website, the winery has identity verification responsibilities as an e-commerce shop.

As an example, the winery will need to assure that customers are who they say they are through Dynamic Knowledge Based Authentication. In addition, since people can only purchase wine over the age of 21, the winery would also need to implement age verification. Age verification is a valuable and essential resource for businesses that must confirm the age of a customer, by matching data points specific to that individual. Those data points can include name, birthday, phone number, social security number and more.

Age verification and the focus on a small business is just one of the many solutions EVS can provide to customers. The unique pricing structure and variety of products gives the same opportunity to a business with five employees or thousands.
